Carla is a current resident Indianapolis transplanting from Goshen Indiana; a small town increasing in diversity, and surrounded by Amish country. She was born and raised in inner-city Chicago, became a mom of her first born at the age of 16, completed high school with honors, and began college in the back roads of Mississippi at Alcorn State University. She then moved to Indiana in 1999. Carla has worked as an Educator (3 school districts; Boys & Girls Club; Early Childhood facilities) enhancing her education, graduating with her Bachelor’s from Goshen College in 2006 and then Master’s from Indiana Wesleyan in 2009. is the most extensive with 7 years dedicated to Early Childhood and 21st century studies at Ivy Tech and Bethel University in northern Indiana. Carla was the first Coalition Director of Gr8t Beginnings Early Childhood Coalition in Elkhart County. Each position along her journey is devoted to bridging cultural gaps in the community and ensuring all children and families have access to equitable educational experiences. She's utilized her drive, passion, and dedication to break free from various cycles attributed to generational poverty and cultural division and now she is working to impact those in the community to do the same.

Collective Impact model is utilized as the core framework of bringing stakeholders together to accomplish an identified community and/or organizational goals. Carla utilizes the stakeholder engagement process to bring businesses, city and state officials, and community organizations to the table to maximizes the probability of achieving an identified mission and vision.
As action groups are formulated the visitation of the “stakeholder engagement wheel” is imperative. This wheel is utilized to ensure we have the right people at the table committed to the work and creates a platform for stakeholders to “liberate” themselves when the work they have committed to is accomplished and a plan for sustainability is in place.
